Danforth Plant Science Center Website

The Danforth Center is a leading institution dedicated to using plant science to improve the human condition. As a nonprofit, they rely on donations and grants from the community to keep their research thriving. They tasked us with updating their website to be a place to articulate their mission, with the goal of raising money to further fund their research and initiatives.

Plants, People, Purpose 

This site was no small undertaking. With a substantial amount of information to convey to students, society, and donors, we had to create an experience that spoke to multiple audiences, while allowing the user to stay engaged through an easy to navigate structure. With many stakeholders, we worked across multiple teams to articulate each subset of the business to help tell the most cohesive story possible, while creating a framework that could adapt and change over time.

Using Organic Design to Shape the Danforth

The Danforth didn't have much in the way of design standards to work with, so we evolved the brand to incorporate organic shapes that move and adapt just like the work they do every day. This allowed us to create a living design that moved and breathed as you navigated through each page. 

Components and Styling

To allow the experience to grow with the needs of the business, we created a component system that allows a content author to quickly create a new page when needed without the need of a developer. This helped allow the team flexibility to maintain and keep their website content relevant and timely.

What good is an experience if it doesn't work across all devices and screen sizes? That's why we paid close attention to tablet and mobile, so you always have a consistent user experience no matter what platform you choose to use.
